Debra graduated from Coe College (cum laude) with a major in Biology and earned a Masters Degree from Northwestern University. She earned her Juris Doctor degree from Loyola University at Chicago. In 2003, she was awarded an Excellence in Pro Bono and Public Interest Service by the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois for starting a "Help Desk" in the Bankruptcy Court where she continues to actively volunteer time on the Pro Bono Committee. She is a member of the Chicago Bar Association and the American Bankruptcy Institute and has served as a guest lecturer at the American Bankruptcy Institute.
